How it all began…
One room in the former wooden farm house was already being used as a lounge around 1700. Guests at this time were the carriage people who transported salt through the Tannheim Valley. It was only in 1928 that the change from the old village inn to a guesthouse was implemented under the operation of Martina Schädle.Renate Huber and her husband Bruno took over the former "Rot-Flüh" guesthouse on a life annuity in 1964. With a lot of effort, long-sightedness and readiness to take risks, the couple made the house known far beyond the borders of the Tannheim Valley and a landmark of the Grän-Haldensee community. After Martina Schädle and Renate Huber, it is now the daughter Sonja Huber with the support of her husband Franz who run the traditional, family-operated house at Haldensee Lake in its third generation.
Back to 1928:
The former guesthouse was considerably extended from 1928 to 1931. During these years a large part of the house was renovated under the management of Martina Schädle. A dining room was added. Martina Schädle was a pioneer of tourism in her home village and in the entire Tannheim Valley. With the extension of the bathing possibilities at Haldensee Lake she set the course for the touristic use of this idyllic high alpine lake. Undeterred by personal strokes of fate – her husband Hansjörg was killed in action at the end of World War II in Norway – she continued to work for the general good for many years. In 1955 the attic of "Rot-Flüh" was extended and painted in red, the colour which then became a symbol of the house. Mrs. Schädle, who died in 2000 aged 95, was awarded the Certificate of Honour by the Chamber of Commerce – Department of Tourism for her merit with regard to tourism in the Tannheim Valley and for forty years of exemplary work in Tyrolean tourism.
An alternation of generations took place with Renate Huber – daughter of Mrs. Schädle – and her husband Bruno taking over the "Rot-Flüh" guesthouse in 1964. They regarded the personal contact to guests as their main task.
"We want them to see the hotel as a home far from home", Renate Huber said. It was her aim, and the aim of her staff, to care for their guests in a loving way, to try to fulfil their personal wishes, and to spoil them with small courtesies. The couple was always occupied with the personal operation and continuous extension of the hotel facility. The excellent remuneration of the Dream Hotel …liebes Rot-Flüh was the reason why some guests even discovered the Tannheim Valley.
Annex construction of Club Montanara, indoor pool, multi-media bath, Turkish steam bath
First wellness idea…
The wellness idea was first born in …liebes Rot-Flüh in 1969 with the realisation of the 1st multi-media grotto bath, a wonderful hot Jacuzzi, which is still in operation and provides true relaxation for the guests. Bruno Huber, the second son of eight children of the farmer and innkeeper Hugo Huber from Holzgau, was looking for a new challenge, recognised his chance and took action. At the end of the 60ies he had the plans for an indoor pool with 180 m² of water area designed. The pool was first opened in 1970 for hotel guests and also for the public. The investments had paid themselves back after a short period of time. The surrounding communities were impressed, hesitated, and followed with the construction of their own bathing facilities much later. By then, the imaginative business man had already extended his bathing facility with further attractions like an outdoor bathing area with waterfall and the "Nessi" lake monster already.
"Different from all the others" was the slogan under which Bruno and Renate Huber started with the new construction of their five-star dream hotel at Haldensee Lake in the Tannheim Valley in 1987. With an incredible love for detail and playful creativity Bruno Huber created the ultimate hotel - a landmark, unique of its kind.
International players played in the "Montanara Tennis Club". When Eric Jelen and Patrick Künen came onto centre court, it became very quiet on the other three outdoor courts and the two indoor courts with carpet floors. The tennis instructors were truly delighted with the modernly equipped training facilities.
The love for details of Bruno Huber can still be felt throughout the hotel. In addition to three separate restaurants, a hotel facility with 220 beds, and a shop lane, the hotel has plenty to offer with regard to sports and leisure time. The sports offer was a main focus of the all-year hotel, which was named after a mountain giant of the TannheimValley: the Loch-Ness Bath, where Nessi swims for the children in summer. An artificial river with real source water from Tannheim reaching the "Via Mala" restaurant via a waterfall. Three pools in the hotel and the Haldensee lake directly outside the hotel await guests as a fountain of health.
The "Loch Ness outdoor pool area" with 750 m² of water area, the indoor pool with 180 m² of water area combined with the Finnish sauna and solarium, the new multi-media bath with 45 m² and the Turkish steam bath with heated lie-down areas have set a new benchmark in tourism and were marketed as the "new landmark in the Tannheim Valley". Furthermore, a MINICLUB with all-day supervision was realised.
Three conference rooms with 40, 80 and 220 seats are available for conferences and conventions. The biggest room, "Leonardo da Vinci", was designed in the style of a northern Italian village square. The conference room is surrounded by house facades, a small balcony can be turned into a speaker's desk, the buffet becomes a village inn. And a panoramic window opens the view of the 2111 m high Rot Flüh Peak.
During the reconstruction in 1987 the focus was put on natural construction methods and fittings. The 14 different room types have been decorated with solid wood and natural resin impregnations, shielded lines, and natural fibre fabrics and floors. Also the rooms impress with natural building methods and fittings. Mr. Bruno Huber has always been described as a business man who loves to take risks.
Since his opinion was "back to nature" already back in these years, he accepted the higher costs for natural materials for the construction of his dream hotel.
Technology was another milestone in …liebes Rot-Flüh. The programme was especially conceived for the hotel and is something very special. Each guest gets an identity card, which can be used as an on-site credit card, as key card, and as access control. The phone system with wake-up call service was a novelty too. "The areas living, gastronomy, service, wellness, sport and leisure time offers make up an entity in …liebes Rot-Flüh, since only when everything is harmonious and the guests feel completely content, a stay in a hotel is equivalent to being at home while being on holidays."
…liebes Rot-Flüh is a family-operated hotel and we want it to remain this way with all our hearts.
